Public Transport

Even if you have been living in the area for a while now, unless you use it every day, public transport could be the last thing on your mind – working out what public transport options are available, where is the nearest bus stop and what discounts are available? We’ve put all the information you may require below, click on each section to find out more. Also, to the right, you will find a list of useful links for public transport operators in the area and travel planners.

Buses

Your closest bus stop is the Larch Way bus stop on Hundred Acre Way, approximately a 4-minute walk away.

You will find that Stephensons of Essex 16 and 16A bus services run between Newmarket, Red Lodge, and Bury St Edmunds. Bus 16 heads towards Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.
16 runs roughly every hour Monday to Saturday, while the 16A operates on school days with three weekday services: 07:29 and 07:43 to Bury St Edmunds, plus 16:42 to Newmarket, Monday to Friday (Except public holidays).

Coach Services 357 goes from Mildenhall to Bury St Edmunds via Red Lodge three times daily Monday-Friday, twice on Saturday and no service on Sunday or bank holidays.

Mulleys bus service 956 operates between Mildenhall and Bury St Edmunds via Red Lodge, twice daily and with no service Saturday-Sunday or bank holidays.

Bus Passes

There are a selection of local incentives throughout Suffolk to promote travelling by public transport; including bus passes. If you are of pensionable age, you will be entitled to apply for an ‘Age Related’ bus pass which allows free off-peak bus travel. To apply or to find out further information, please visit the Suffolk on Board website. Additionally, you can apply for a ‘Disabled Persons’ bus pass if you have an eligible disability.

Young Person Bus Discounts

For those aged between 16 and 19, you can apply for the Suffolk Endeavour Card. This card is free to apply for and gives you at least 25% off the cost of bus travel. The only requirement is that your journey either starts or finishes in Suffolk. Apply for the card through the Suffolk on Board website.

Train Travel

Your nearest train station is in Kennett Rail Station which is approximately 12-minute cycle ride or 5-minute drive away.
Kennett Rail Station has 22 cycle storage spaces and 12 car parking spaces. From this station you have Greater Anglia trains between Ipswich and Cambridge, but also, connection services to London, Norwich, Colchester and more.

The station offers step free access to both platforms via a ramped footbridge. However, customers requiring assistance should book in advance as this station is not staffed.

Alternatively another train station near to you is Newmarket Rail Station that is the closest mainline train station and has 78 sheltered cycle storage spaces and 11 car parking spaces. Step free access is available to the single platform for trains towards both Ipswich and Cambridge. There is also a meeting assistance point.

Tickets can be purchased from the train station, however, where possible, we would suggest purchasing tickets in advance to receive the best prices!

Railcards

When using the train for leisure purposes, railcards are a great way to receive discounts on the cost of rail tickets. There are various options available, such as; 16-17 saver, 16-25, 26-30, two-together, disabled person or the senior railcard.
